Livelihood Development
NAWA has been playing a major role to support the Tribal communities achieve sustainable livelihoods through various on-farm and off-farm programmes.
The major on-farm programmes have focused on development of the land resources belonging to tribal members to establish horticulture plantations of tea, coffee, spices and fruit trees and also value-addition of both agricultural produce as well as minor forest produces. Promotion of tribal herbal medicines has also been another intervention aimed at livelihood enhancement for Traditional herbal medical practitioners.
To provide supplementary income, animal husbandry development has been another area of focus for livelihood enhancement.
Similarly, NAWA has also focused on enhancement of traditional livelihood skills of tribal communities (Carpentry, blacksmith, pottery, embroidery, painting, etc to enable the youth for self – employment and sustained economic development.
Promotion of Tribal handicrafts has been another area of livelihood promotion that NAWA has facilitated among the tribal communities.
