Welcome To Nilgiris Adivasi Welfare Association

The Nilgiris Adivasi Welfare Association (NAWA) is a secular, charitable non-government organization founded by late Padmashri Dr. S. Narasimhan and registered in 1958 following many year of lonely pioneering work in 1940. He established Medical Centers in Kolikarai and Aryure Tribal villages initially. Recognizing his noble work former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru presented a Jeep to Dr. Narasimhan in 1952. Dr. Narasimhan was awarded Padmashri by Government of India and Dr. B.C. Roy Award by Medical Council of India to recognize his noble work for the welfare of Nilgiri tribal communities. In 1966 Miss Victoria Armstrong (Inspector of School in England) Inspired by Dr.Narasimhan’s work joined Nilgiris Adivasi Welfare Association as a voluntary worker. She became the Honorary Treasurer of Nilgiris Adivasi Welfare Association and under her leadership the work of NAWA expanded to cover more villages with many new programmes.
